Power Purchase Agreement
Most 100% renewable hydrogen projects have been demonstrated using curtailed wind or solar energy. We knew that with the current and growing demand for hydrogen gas, curtailed electricity would not be a sufficient source. StratosFuel has a long-term power purchase agreement
The ZIP Hydrogen Facility will produce its hydrogen via Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers. Our electrolyzers are manufactured by Hydrogenics and are engineered to scale with demand.
Behind the Production
The ZIP facility is built using 1.25MW PEM stacks. Each stack has the ability to produce 450kg of hydrogen per day. In order to optimize daily production capacity, all of the stacks work in unison to produce hydrogen anytime the sun and wind is out.
Hydrogen demand is currently on the rise. With merchant, and industrial customers as the largest market driver, there is a new demand that is increasing the need for renewable hydrogen, FCV's. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are beginning to populate California roads, and we will soon see expansion into the East Coast market within the next few years. The ZIP facility will help the renewable hydrogen market in Southern California meet and exceed demand.
Scalability is very important to us, and the ZIP facility is able to scale to conform to market needs. Currently, the facility is being built out to sustain a 3-pahse expansion:

Everything that is needed to operate the ZIP facility, such as PEM's, control panel, water systems, electricity panel, compressors, and storage tanks are fully integrated within a building. This unique design allows for maximum protection from the harsh desert climate, and easy access for maintenance. Our design innovations take time, logisticsm and efficiency into account, which when complete will make it one of the most advanced hydrogen production facilitates in North America.
