StratosFuel's design and engineering teams have gone to extraordinary lengths to ensure that drivers are able to pull up to a station without any obstruction or inconvenience. Our stations are located at sites that have amenities for drivers and are near highly traveled roads. Much of our station design and locations are owed to the unique algorithm that we have developed. Using technology like our algorithm allows us to develop stations that make refueling your HFCV even easier to fuel than you’re old gasoline car.
How it Works
StratosFuel stations store hydrogen in high-pressure cylinders, chill the gas, and dispense it right into your fuel cell electric vehicle. This process translates into a range greater than 300 miles in just over 3 minutes.
Stations deliver two types of pressure depending on mode of transportation. Primarily for passenger vehicles, we dispense using 700 bar (H70), which provides users with a full tank. Larger vehicles, such as trucks use 350 bar (H35). When fueling with either or, there is a difference in time to refuel and travel distance. H35 fills provide the user with a half fill. That being said our stations support both fueling pressures but focus on H70 for all light-duty vehicles.
Our Ontario station is 100% renewable, and produces its hydrogen onsite via electrolysis. In series two of our network we will be utilizing compress, store and dispense equipment (as illustrated below) and will have its hydrogen delivered via tube trailers. This method will allow us to upgrade the station with ease as demand grows.
To ensure you have the best fueling experience possible here are a few steps to fill your FCV:
Check for station availability
Swipe Credit Card.
Remove nozzle from dispenser , and connect to vehicle. When complete give the nozzle a tug to check seal is secure.
Select H70 and begin fill. During the fueling process there will be pauses, these are normal and StratosFuel monitors will alert you when your fuel is complete. Each fill should take between 3-5 minutes.
Once the monitor says fuel complete and you hear a click, disengage nozzle and select receipt method (print or email).
Our focus is to dispense the highest renewable hydrogen content at the most market friendly rate. The State of California has enacted Senate Bill 1505, which stipulates that 33% hydrogen used for vehicles must be produced from renewable sources. We have already committed to dispensing greater than 33% renewable hydrogen during series 1 of our network. We will achieve this through the use of renewable energy credits for biogas and electricity. As illustrated below, our stations will have two series. During the second series of our network (2018) we will be able to distribute 100% renewable hydrogen. That being said our network and production facility allows us to truly advance renewable hydrogen that is locally generated, and does so at a cost that is below market rate.
StratosFuel is not stopping at one hydrogen station; we are moving this industry forward by developing a network of hydrogen stations throughout the State of California and eventually the entire country.
StratosFuels’ current and planned hydrogen network aims at strengthening regions in California to add redundancy, scalability, and continuity to the network as a whole.
We are always looking for the next station to build. The majority of stations we look for are in cluster, connector, and secondary areas.
